Message (Mensagem) is Fernando Pessoa’s most famous book.  An interesting vision of Portugal’s History, it invites us into a healthy journey to our collective past, in search for the cultural and spiritual energies that can help us to better, in the present, our shared future. It is in that way that at U.F.P. we understand the function of the university: prepare in the present, citizens who are aware of their past, so that the past can inspire and help them to have an outstanding understanding of the future.

We privilege the active knowledge and the applied investigation sustained by the new information technologies. We travel already in the electronic highways, communicating with universities from other continents: European and North American universities, universities from Canada, Brazil and Latin America. These are our partners in the adventure of interactive knowledge and, like cybernauts, we continue to update Pessoa’s message because we still have a “craving for sailing…”

University Fernando Pessoa (UFP) is a private institution created in 1992, as result of the merger of two innovative institutes of higher education. The main purpose of this merger was to give birth to a university dedicated to the development of the “Knowledge Society” through new teaching strategies. We aim at building a different conception of university, where teaching and research are made of real things in real time.
