On 20 November, the 3rd year students of Speech Therapy degree from the Fernando Pessoa Higher Health School<\/a> participated in a class integrated into the curriculum unit Discussion of Evidence-Based Cases I, under the responsibility of Professor Daniela Vieira, lecturer in the Speech Therapy degree, and led by Physiotherapist Vanessa Cassimiro, a collaborator at Paediatric Physiotherapy Clinic of ESS<\/a><\/p>\n

The session addressed topics that cut across healthcare, highlighting the relationship between the stomatognathic system, posture, proprioception, sensorimotor regulation, and mental health, demonstrating how these areas interconnect in clinical practice. Fundamental concepts were explored regarding posture, balance, interoception, mandibular dynamics, and the influence of emotions and stress on movement and functionality, underscoring the importance of a biopsychosocial approach in patient care.<\/p>\n

The lesson reinforced the interconnection between Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy, demonstrating how the combination of knowledge leads to more complete and effective therapeutic responses. Speech Therapist Vanessa Cassimiro also highlighted the role of Physiotherapy in different contexts, including mental health, postural rehabilitation, and well-being promotion, evidencing the impact of this collaboration on the overall functionality of patients.<\/p>\n

At the end of the session, the students participated in a practical component, where they were able to experience some of the principles discussed, from body awareness and breathing exercises to balance and sensory perception dynamics, consolidating learning through direct experimentation.<\/p>\n
