Education and qualifications

 

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto
  • Master’s degree in Oncology from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto/Portuguese Oncology Institute Francisco Gentil of Porto/Thomas Jefferson Medical College
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Scientific Branch, from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto

Professional activities

 

  • Since 2004, faculty member at University Fernando Pessoa. Currently serving as Coordinating Professor, teaching in the Integrated Master’s in Medicine (MIM), Integrated Master’s in Dental Medicine, and the Bachelor’s programs in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Physiotherapy, and Speech Therapy. Also teaches in the Master’s program in Specialized Laboratory Analysis. Coordinator of the course unit Molecules, Cells, and Diseases I (in MIM) and member of the Pedagogical Council of ESS-FP.

Other relevant activities

 

  • Core member of the Experimental Pathology and Therapeutics research group at CI IPO-Porto and collaborating member of the I3ID FFP Research Center at University Fernando Pessoa 
  • Involved in various funded projects, both as principal investigator and as part of the research team.
  • Supervises Ph.D. and master’s students
  • Research interests mainly focus on immunology, tumorigenesis, immunotherapy, cell cycle analysis, and animal experimentation models, with numerous publications in international scientific journals

Other Activities

 

  • Concurrently, has been working at the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto (IPO-Porto) for the past 32 years. Initially worked in the Pathology  and Genetics Services. Later joined the Immunology Service, currently part of the Clinical Pathology Service, where he has been since 2003 as a Senior Health Technician specializing in Clinical Analysis. Besides clinical laboratory activities, participates in undergraduate and postgraduate training of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences students.
  • Member of the Directorate of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Coordinator of the Training Group of the said Department.
