- University Graduate Diploma in Pediatric Dentistry (2 years Curricular Plan)
- Specialization in Pediatric Dentistry (3 years Curricular Plan)
Pediatric Dentistry is one of the specialized areas of Dentistry recognized and regulated at European level. In Portugal, obtaining the title of specialist in Pediatric Dentistry by the Portuguese Dental Association is mandatorily preceded by a minimum theoretical-practical training in a university department or higher education unit lasting, at least, 3 years and with prior recognition of suitability by the Portuguese Dental Association (Ordem dos Médicos Dentistas – OMD), within the framework of Directive 2013/55 / EU.
OBJETIVES
2 years Curricular Plan
Differentiate professionals in pediatric dentistry who:
- are competent in the basic areas of Pediatric Dentistry to assist the growing and developing child;
- are competent in the oral needs of the conventional child, from birth to adolescence;
- are able to continue to acquire knowledge and skills, related to the area, throughout their professional life;
- are able to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams that aim at child health;
- be able to teach oral health care to children and their caregivers as well as general dentists and staff members of the health team.
3 years Curricular Plan
Specialize professionals in Pediatric Dentistry who:
- are competent in all areas of Pediatric Dentistry to assist the growing and developing child;
- are competent in the oral needs of the conventional child and the child with special needs, from birth to adolescence;
- are able to continue to acquire knowledge and skills, related to their specialty, throughout their professional life;
- are trained in Pediatric Dentistry and are capable of investigating in the clinical and basic science areas of the specialty.
AIMED TO
Dentists with a degree or integrated master’s degree or equivalent diploma, enrolled in the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD) or equivalent professional entity from another EU country.
VACANCIES
The course will operate with a minimum of 8 students.
DURATION
Postgraduate University Diploma in Pediatric Dentistry – The course will have a duration of 2 years, corresponding to 120 ECTS.
Specialization in Pediatric Dentistry – The course will last for 3 years, corresponding to 180 ECTS.
Students who register for the purpose of executing only 2 years (120 ECTS), can be followed up immediately to attend the 3-year course (180 ECTS), at the end of the 2nd year of the course, under pedagogical and administrative regularization. A student’s PG Diploma in ODP (2 years, 120 ECTS) can, upon availability and analysis by the respective course committees, allow “re-entry” into the PG-Specialization Course in ODP (3 years, 180 ECTS) until 2 years after completing 120ECTS training (2 years). At the end of this period, the candidate for the PG Specialization ODP course must comply with the general application rules for admission to the course, effective on the date on which he / she proposes, for application

- Spoken and written Portuguese language diploma obtained in the last 5 years, equivalent to the minimum level A1 (4)
(1) Citizens of countries outside the European Union must present a valid residence permit in accordance with the rules of the Portuguese Foreigners and Borders Service.
(2) Exempt if the identification document is the Citizen Card.
(3) Certificates of qualifications from foreign higher education institutions: copies or originals must be authenticated by the official education services of the respective country and recognized by the Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority or bring the apostille of the Hague Convention. The certificate of disciplines must include or be accompanied by the Grade Scale.
