9:45 am SESSION 2. CLIMATE CHANGE HAZARD MITIGATION AND HEALTH RESPONSE CHALLENGES

Short description: In this session, participants will explore the multiple challenges posed by climate change and their consequences on health and health responses. Topics of discussion will include identifying common risk types and analysing the effectiveness of national healthcare response mechanisms in addressing the various phases of disaster management, including prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery. Strategies for enhancing coordination, communication, and resource allocation will be explored, considering the diverse political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental contexts (PESTLE).

Short description: In this session, participants will have the opportunity to dive into healthcare and surgery best practices in limited-resource environments, particularly in the aftermath of disasters. Discussion will revolve around the critical roles played by various stakeholders, including healthcare providers, community leaders, and volunteers, in establishing effective disaster management structures. Emphasis will be placed on adopting a holistic public health approach that considers the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. Furthermore, the session will explore innovative strategies for promoting resilience and sustainable development in affected communities, focusing on enhancing health, quality of life, and overall well-being.

Short description: During this session, participants will examine the complex connections between healthcare responses to disasters and innovation in the context of climate change. Discussions will be centred on identifying and mitigating health risks associated with environmental changes. Moreover, the session will explore the critical role of preparedness, using existing or new technologies. Additionally, participants will discuss public health promotion initiatives to build resilience, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement.
