The 7th edition of the Communication Sciences Day took place on April 22nd.

The 7th edition of the Communication Sciences Day took place on 22nd April, in the Salão Nobre of FP, under the theme “(In)Visibilities in Contemporary Communication”.

This is an initiative that is already well established in the academic life of the institution, bringing together students, lecturers and guests from the fields of media, journalism, culture, arts and politics. The day ultimately provided a critical reflection on the multiple levels of visibility and opacity that characterise current communication.

The opening session featured Jorge Sobrado, Councillor for Culture and Heritage of the Porto City Council, in a talk dedicated to the theme “From the Invisible City to the Illuminated City”. Throughout the day, it was possible to discuss various issues through the sessions “The role of the regional and local press”, with Anabela Carvalho – Editor-in-Chief of “O Gaiense” newspaper and Anabela Vasconcelos – Coordinator of “A Verdade” newspaper; “Vinho Verde – Communication of an International Brand”, with Dora Simões – President of the Vinho Verde Region Viticulture Commission; “Behind the scenes”, with Isabel Correia – Producer and Jurist at RTP and Catarina Folhadela – Journalist and Deputy Coordinator at SIC Porto; “Communication and technology”, with Luís Silva – President of “Porto Tech Hub”. A round table was also held entitled “Invisible (in)visible characters?”, which included the direct participation of Communication Sciences students and Pedro Reis Sá – Communication Director of Futebol Clube de Famalicão, Tiago Ferreira – Image Reporter for TVI/CNN Porto and Afonso Guedes – Communication Advisor to the Minister of the Presidency, Leitão Amaro.

Within the scope of the collaboration with the International Chair of Bioethics, the “Fast Food Slow Thinking” photography exhibition and competition also took place throughout the day. There was also an exhibition of posters created by the 2nd year Communication Sciences students: “Do our food choices reflect or condition the way we live, think and relate to the world,” the same theme arising from the work of the Design course.

Fernando Pessoa would like to thank all the guests for their presence and for sharing experiences and knowledge with our students, and all the lecturers and students involved in the activity. Finally, thanks also to Professor Doctor Francisco Mesquita for his collaboration, who was responsible for the visual identity of the event.
