The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences interprets and develops the university's mission by responding to the three main structuring aspects of Higher Education: Teaching; Research; Outreach and Service Exchange. Guided by the University's scientific, cultural, and pedagogical project, the Faculty's mission aims for teaching grounded in fundamental and applied research, supported by innovative and continuously updated methodologies, alongside a solid cultural and civic education for all members of its academic community.

The range of courses offered is quite varied in terms of undergraduate studies, i.e. bachelor's degrees, and in terms of postgraduate studies, master's and doctoral degrees, and is fundamentally oriented towards responding to current social needs.

In pedagogical terms, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences aims to guide the teaching-learning process through a close relationship between theory and practice, and between knowledge and action. It provides resources and tools for the enhancement of crucial skills and competencies for the professional context (such as the TV, radio, press, and hypermedia laboratories, equipped with the latest technology in the field), and also includes the undertaking of internal and external internships, providing real-life learning contexts (such as the Pedagogical Psychology Clinic and the Teaching Hospital).

The Faculty also relies on a collaborative and close relationship between lecturers and students, seeks to adapt to students' needs through, for example, distance learning or after-hours learning, and has its own highly qualified teaching staff, comprising around one hundred doctors.

In summary, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences embraces the contribution to a multicultural and cosmopolitan society, of citizens with a critical spirit, socially conscious and entrepreneurial, offering students a unique learning and personal development environment, which enables them to contribute responsibly, individually and as a group, positively impacting the construction of a socially and environmentally sustainable world.
