The School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (EMCB) is an organic unit of the Fernando Pessoa University (UFP), located in the Gondomar area of the UFP campus. It benefits from a privileged connection to the Fernando Pessoa Trofa Saúde Hospital, which constitutes a structuring axis of its teaching, research and clinical training activities.
The creation of EMCB is based on a solid institutional trajectory. The Fernando Pessoa University, established by the Fernando Pessoa Foundation for Education and Culture, was recognized as being of public interest by Decree-Law No. 107/96, of July 31. On January 17, 2023, the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) approved the opening of the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine (MIM), making UFP the second private university in Portugal to offer medical training and, at that time, the first with its own hospital. Following this approval, EMCB was created, officially inaugurated on December 16, 2024.

The School has a modern building, designed to meet the pedagogical and training needs of students. It has fully equipped and air-conditioned classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, medical simulation spaces with advanced technology, and a specialized library, in addition to access to all the transversal institutional infrastructures and services of UFP.

Clinical practice teaching is highly valued through close collaboration with the Fernando Pessoa Trofa Saúde Hospital, as well as with other hospital units and partner health institutions, within the framework of established collaboration protocols. This model ensures students a progressive clinical immersion and early contact with real-world healthcare practice settings.

EMCB's mission is to train highly skilled professionals, prepared to meet the challenges of health and biomedical sciences with scientific rigor, critical thinking, innovation, and social commitment. The faculty includes PhD professors and specialists of recognized national and international merit, with solid clinical experience and relevant research activity. These professionals ensure an innovative teaching-learning model, based on a spiral curriculum with robust scientific foundations, which prioritizes the analysis of clinical cases, problem-solving, and the use of scientific evidence.
