On May 15th, between 11:00 AM and 11:45 AM, as part of the Speech Therapy degree program, an open lecture entitled "Communication in academic and professional contexts in the health field" will take place.
The class will take place in the Fernando Pessoa Room and will be taught by 4th-year Speech Therapy students Ana Sofia Silva, Bárbara Duarte, Simona Martorana, Magda Silva, and Ana Rita Cruz. This training aims to raise awareness among health science students about the importance of effective communication in academic and professional contexts, promoting an understanding of the communication process, different forms of communication, and their role in interaction with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
The aim of the class is also to contribute to the development of skills related to the clear and assertive transmission of messages, active listening and empathy in interpersonal interactions, the distinction between verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as communication strategies in academic, professional and clinical contexts. Aspects related to therapeutic communication with users and families will also be addressed, as well as the importance of adapting the communicative environment, and there will be a brief introduction to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
The event is intended for students and teachers of undergraduate degrees in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Nutrition Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology and Speech Therapy, from the second year of their studies onwards.
