Over the next few days, from 3 to 9 May, the “7 Days with the Media” initiative will take place under the theme “Human Rights: Online or Offline?”, promoted by GILM (Informal Group on Media Literacy). This year the project includes Fernando Pessoa University as a partner and the UFP Television Laboratory as one of the media partners scholars of this edition.
The 7 Days with the Media 2026 initiative challenges us to analyse how media and digital environments influence our behaviour, often guided by automatic mechanisms such as algorithms. In a reality marked by constant speed, it becomes essential to value fundamental principles, such as respectful coexistence, appreciation of differences, social justice, open communication, and the promotion of a more peaceful society.
In this 14th edition, the importance of making informed decisions is highlighted: knowing where to look for information, consciously deciding what content we consume and share, and distinguishing between what deserves trust and what needs to be confirmed. This process implies responsibility and critical analysis skills, supported by competencies linked to media and information literacy. In this way, the initiative invites personal and group reflection on human rights in the current digital context, specifically how they can be strengthened or, conversely, weakened in an interconnected world.
The event will include 3 workshops at the FP with different target audiences, namely 3rd cycle and secondary students; 1st and 2nd cycle students; and 3rd cycle and secondary students. There will also be two videocasts (whose target audience will be from the 3rd cycle of studies onwards) and a podcast intended for everyone.
