The UFP hosts a Masterclass on Agile

The Fernando Pessoa University received a Masterclass dedicated to the fundamentals of Agile on 29 May, facilitated by Vânia Silva – Agile Coach at Blip, which combined theory and practice over almost three hours.

The participants explored the essential concepts of agile methodologies— Scrum, Kanban, estimates and metrics — but the big highlight was the high level of engagement and participation throughout the session. The group faced a practical challenge: to build the tallest possible structure using only A4 paper, post-it notes, and a paperclip. In the next iteration, the requirements changed and the focus shifted to the stability of the structure. A simple exercise, but a powerful way to experience concepts like adaptability, feedback loops, and iterative delivery. The session also included a simulation of a Sprint changed priorities, Bugs in production and the unexpected unavailability of a team member — a practical demonstration of how the Agile It works under real-world constraints.

Fernando Pessoa would like to extend a special thank you to Dr Rita Aleixo for her presentation of Blip, where she introduced its projects, culture and ways of working, and to Dr Vânia Silva for leading the Masterclass and to Blip for the opportunity to share their approach to Agile, in practice. The initiative, held at the invitation of Professor Christophe Soares, was attended by students, alumni and faculty from the Computer Engineering course, strengthening the link between academic training and the practices that development teams apply in the job market. For those who participated, the expectation is that the knowledge shared can be applied to their academic and professional journeys.
