FP conducts a Minor Surgery Course as part of the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine.

On the 23rd of April, the Minor Surgery Course, an initiative integrated into the curriculum unit of Clinical Gestures and Practices III, of the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine.

The course took place at the Centre for Experimental Anatomy and Surgery (CACE), belonging to the Fernando Pessoa Hospital School, alongside the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (EMCB), under the coordination of Prof. Jaime Vilaça, and involved the participation of lecturers Sofia Dias da Silva, Carolina Tavares, Filipa Mendes and Tomás Dias Araújo. Aimed at students of the Integrated Master's in Medicine, the training also included the participation of 5th-year students of the Integrated Master's in Dental Medicine, promoting the sharing of knowledge and experiences between different health areas.

The programme integrated a theoretical and practical component, covering topics such as the skin as an organ and the healing process, principles of asepsis and local anaesthesia, suture materials, approaches to traumatic wounds, surgical techniques and closure procedures. In the practical modules, students had the opportunity to practice various suturing techniques, perform dressings and develop skills in laparoscopic surgery, working in small groups.

The initiative had the institutional support of Karl Storz Laparoscopes. This dynamic reinforces FP's commitment to excellent medical training, based on a strong practical component and the development of fundamental clinical skills for the practice of the profession.
