EMCB Team from FP Publishes in the Official Journal of the European Society of Pathology

A new study by researchers from the Fernando Pessoa School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has evaluated the use of an artificial intelligence (AI) model to detect tumour cells in breast cancer. The scientific paper, titled “Artificial intelligence enhances cancer cell selection for HER2 gene amplification assessment in breast carcinoma,” is authored by researchers Iván Rienda, João Correia Pinto, Catarina Eloy, and António Polónia. Published in the official journal of the European Society of Pathology (Virchows Archiv), the work demonstrates that the use of AI models to detect tumour cells in hybridisation images in situ, improves the selection of tumour cells, with high specificity, increasing the accuracy of genetic results. A promising advance in the integration of AI in diagnostic analyses.
