The ISUS LIACC@UFP Pole Group hosted the “Smart Cars Bootcamp: Artificial Intelligence in Action” at the Fernando Pessoa University (UFP) between the 7th and 9th of July. This summer internship was part of the national "Scientific Occupation of Young People during Holidays" programme, promoted by Ciência Viva.

The initiative was an intensive, hands-on internship, during which students from the 9th to 12th grade had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics ecosystem. Under the guidance of lecturers and students from the UFP Informatics Hub, participants worked directly with state-of-the-art robotic kits, equipped with technologies similar to those in current autonomous vehicles. Through the use of the Python programming language and advanced sensors (such as cameras and LiDAR systems), the young people collected real-time data and trained simplified artificial intelligence models for the implementation of various examples of autonomous driving.
