ABOUT THE COURSE
Context
This Postgraduate course at Fernando Pessoa University enables graduates to obtain teaching qualifications in special education recruitment groups in mainland Portugal, the Azores, and Madeira. Its main objective is to respond to the challenges faced by teachers and their partners in the direct application of a new pedagogical paradigm, aiming at the development of effective practices in consolidating inclusive education.
With this specialized training, as outlined in Article 3, paragraph a, of Decree-Law No. 95/97 of April 23, the aim is for students to achieve the following competency profile:
– To understand the policies and practices of inclusive education;
– To support the school and teachers in implementing the new legal framework for inclusive education (Decree-Law No. 54/2018 of July 6);
– To develop, in partnership, the individual educational program (IEP) referred to in paragraph 6 of article 22 of Decree-Law no. 54/2018 of July 6, and the Individual Transition Plan (ITP), based on article 25 of the same decree;
– Utilize accessibility features and specific technologies to promote inclusion;
– To learn specific pedagogical methodologies that will aid in the development and functionality of students.
– To distinguish and apply universal, selective, and additional measures that correspond to the educational responses that the school has available for all students, promoting the participation of all and the improvement of learning;
– To know and apply organizational and pedagogical models of assessment, planning, and intervention in an inclusive classroom, adapting activities to the pace and difficulties of the students;
– To understand the role of multidisciplinary teams in supporting inclusive education;
– To deepen knowledge about the relationship between school and family.

Licensed teachers for preschool, primary and secondary education;
Psychologists, Social Service Technicians, Therapists, and other Professionals interested in the area.

Certification / accreditation
– Accredited in accordance with current legislation by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Teacher Training.
– Number of hours credited for career progression: 250 (No. 1, Article 8 of Decree-Law 22/2014 of February 11)
– Possibility of credit transfer for the purpose of pursuing a Master's degree in Education Sciences: Special Education, in accordance with current legislation.
