Special Education: Mastering Early Childhood Intervention

ABOUT THE COURSE

The National System for Early Childhood Intervention (SNIPI) was established under Decree-Law No 281/2009, published in the Official Gazette on 6 October, in order to respond to the challenges faced by Special Education teachers with direct applications for the development of effective practice for the care of children aged 0 to 6.

This training will enable them to develop skills that promote effective and high-quality service in accordance with international guidelines and the aforementioned Decree-Law.

With this specialized training, in accordance with article 3, paragraph a, of Decree-Law no. 95/97 of April 23, it is intended that students achieve the following skills profile:
– Identifying the resources and needs of the child and family.,
– Identification of the support plan to be provided,
– Establishing an individual support plan for the child and the family,
– Promoting ecological practices and evaluating the results.
– Promoting opportunities for socialization and development at home;
– Preparing for transitions;
– Promoting opportunities for family integration into the community;
– Promoting teamwork and establishing partnerships;
– Clarification of knowledge through reflective and critical articulation of the fundamental theories and concepts in Early Intervention;
– Understanding the evolution of early intervention practices and concepts in Portugal and the rest of Europe;
– Identification of the target group and eligibility criteria for the Intervention, in accordance with current Portuguese legislation;
– Acquisition of ethical skills, based on personal and professional values;
– Acquisition of functional skills in the area of Early Intervention, with regard to family-centered intervention, to be carried out in a transdisciplinary team, within the child's natural life context.

Education professionals with a bachelor's degree at the pre-school, primary, secondary, and high school levels, special education teachers, psychologists, social service technicians, therapists, and other professionals involved in Early Intervention teams.

After-work

Accredited in accordance with current legislation by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Teacher Training.

Number of hours credited for career progression: 250 (No. 1, Article 8 of Decree-Law 22/2014 of February 11)

The training completed may be subject to an application for credit transfer for the purposes of further studies, in accordance with applicable legislation and regulations. Any application for credit transfer is subject to individual assessment by the competent academic bodies of the Universidade Fernando Pessoa, with no automatic or pre-guaranteed credit transfer.
