ABOUT THE COURSE
Context
This postgraduate course at Fernando Pessoa University enables you to obtain teaching qualifications in special education recruitment groups in mainland Portugal, the Azores, and Madeira.
The National System for Early Childhood Intervention (SNIPI) was created under Decree-Law No. 281/2009, published in the Official Gazette on October 6, in order to respond to the challenges faced by Special Education teachers with direct applications for the development of effective practice in the care of children aged 0 to 6 years.
This training will enable them to develop skills that promote effective and high-quality service in accordance with international guidelines and the aforementioned Decree-Law.
With this specialized training, in accordance with article 3, paragraph a, of Decree-Law no. 95/97 of April 23, it is intended that students achieve the following skills profile:
– Identifying the resources and needs of the child and family.,
– Identification of the support plan to be provided,
– Establishing an individual support plan for the child and the family,
– Promoting ecological practices and evaluating the results.
– Promoting opportunities for socialization and development at home;
– Preparing for transitions;
– Promoting opportunities for family integration into the community;
– Promoting teamwork and establishing partnerships;
– Clarification of knowledge through reflective and critical articulation of the fundamental theories and concepts in Early Intervention;
– Understanding the evolution of early intervention practices and concepts in Portugal and the rest of Europe;
– Identification of the target group and eligibility criteria for the Intervention, in accordance with current Portuguese legislation;
– Acquisition of ethical skills, based on personal and professional values;
– Acquisition of functional skills in the area of Early Intervention, with regard to family-centered intervention, to be carried out in a transdisciplinary team, within the child's natural life context.
Who is it for?
Education professionals with a bachelor's degree at the pre-school, primary, secondary, and high school levels, special education teachers, psychologists, social service technicians, therapists, and other professionals involved in Early Intervention teams.

Accredited in accordance with current legislation by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Teacher Training.
Number of hours credited for career progression: 250 (No. 1, Article 8 of Decree-Law 22/2014 of February 11)
Possibility of credit transfer for the purpose of pursuing a Master's degree in Education Sciences: Special Education, in accordance with current legislation.
