Lecturer from ESS-FP participates in European conference on dysphagia

Prof. Dr. Daniela Vieira participated in 15th Annual Congress of the European Society for Swallowing Disorders (ESSD 2025) – “Advancing Dysphagia Care: Innovations and Best Practices”, which took place at the Eugenides Foundation, in Athens.

This international meeting brought together leading specialists in the field of dysphagia, promoting the sharing of knowledge, innovation, and best practices in the assessment and rehabilitation of swallowing.

During the congress, two scientific posters were presented with the lecturer's participation:

  • “Comparison between Clinical Swallowing Assessment and Patient-Reported Outcomes in Head and Neck Cancer Dysphagia” — work developed in collaboration with Professor Rita Alegria, which analyses the relationship between clinical evaluation and patient perception in dysphagia associated with head and neck cancer.
  • “Carbonated Thickened Beverages in Dysphagia Management: A Scoping Review of Current Evidence – Preliminary Results” — project in partnership with Speech Therapists Joana Maia (Northern Rehabilitation Centre) and Marta Silva (Santo António University Hospital Centre), which reviews the scientific evidence on the use of carbonated thickened beverages in dysphagia management.

Presence at this conference reinforces ESS-FP's commitment to research, innovation, and the continuous improvement of clinical practices in Speech Therapy and Swallowing Rehabilitation, contributing to patients' quality of life and the scientific development of the field.
