The international research and cooperation project AMA Foz Velha was officially presented at the headquarters of the Northern Regional Section of the Order of Architects on 9 July, bringing together different entities around knowledge, enhancement, and reflection on the future of one of Porto's most emblematic historic centres.

The initiative stems from a partnership between the Northern Regional Section of the Order of Architects – North 41°, the Foz Velha Residents' and Friends' Association, and six higher education institutions with Architecture courses, including the Fernando Pessoa University. Based on an interdisciplinary approach, the project aims to articulate academic research, professional practice, public administration, and community participation. Lecturers, researchers, and students from the partner institutions will be involved in the analysis and discussion of challenges related to the preservation and future development of Foz Velha.

The programme of activities includes academic research, a cycle of international seminars in an online and open-access format, an international workshop, the publication of results, and an international congress. The presentation session, on 9 July, had as its central moment a debate moderated by Bruno Marques, president of the Northern Regional Section of the Order of Architects. Participants were Fernando Braga Matos, president of the Foz Velha Residents and Friends Association; Cláudia Montenegro Soares, municipal director of Urban Planning at Porto City Council; and representatives from the partner higher education institutions: António Barbosa, Teresa Cálix, Luís Pinto de Faria, Miguel Malheiro, Lígia Nunes, and Joaquim Flores.

The Fernando Pessoa University was represented by Professor Luís Pinto de Faria, reinforcing, through his participation in this project, the academy's contribution to the study, enhancement, and preservation of urban heritage.
