International Women's Day Celebrations

The 3rd-year Nursing degree students organised an event on 9 March 2026, which aimed to address the topic of women's sexual and reproductive health, as part of the celebration of International Women's Day on 8 March. The topics discussed were family planning, antenatal and postnatal periods, and the menopause. The initiative took place in the Health Amphitheatre of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Fernando Pessoa University.

The opening session, at 3.00 pm, was attended by Professor Doctor Clarinda Festas (Director of ESS-FP) and Professor Doctor Germano Couto (Coordinator of the Nursing Degree).

The panel followed at 3:15 PM, titled “Caring for Women – Sexual and Reproductive Health,” moderated by Professor Raquel Marcolino. 

Each highlighted topic at the event was debated by different nursing students.

Program

1. Caring for women in the context of family planning
(Students: Inês Nogueira, Mónica Santos, João Moreira, Joana Ribeiro and Mário Silva)

First, we will discuss family planning, and this session aims to raise awareness of the importance of this topic, highlighting access to specialised support, reliable information, and assistance in making decisions related to sexual and reproductive health throughout different life stages.

2. Caring for the woman in the context of the prenatal period
(Students: Beatriz Melo, Gabriel Rodrigues, Rúben Oliveira, Joana Carolina and Tiago Carvalho)

Regarding the prenatal period, the aim is to highlight the importance of care from the early stages of pregnancy, promoting the health and well-being of the mother, baby, and family, and contributing to a more positive gestation experience.

3. Caring for the woman in the postnatal period
(Students: Filipa Sêco, Bruna Valente, Ana Sofia Nunes, Cíntia Caolo and Maria Inês Durão)

The aim is also to address the challenges related to the postpartum period and reflect on the adaptation to parenthood after the baby's birth, exploring relevant aspects associated with this period, contributing to a better understanding of this phase. 

4. Caring for women in the context of the climacteric
(Students: Beatriz Galante, Fabiana Ventura, Lara Ribeiro, Catarina Resende, Ana Rita Ferreira and Joana Santos)

Finally, the last topic addressed was the climacteric, where the aim was to raise awareness of the menopause and promote a greater understanding of this phase, reinforcing the importance of information for health.

The event concluded with a performance by the Tuna Feminina da Pessoa.
