Research constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of the mission of Fernando Pessoa University, assuming a central role in the production, dissemination, and valorisation of scientific knowledge.

The Institution's research policy is based on the promotion of quality research, guided by the principles of ethics, scientific rigour, innovation and social responsibility, contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, social and cultural development of society.

In this context, Fernando Pessoa seeks to stimulate its researchers' participation in national and international projects, foster collaboration with external entities, and strengthen the attraction of competitive funding, promoting a culture of open, interdisciplinary research with an impact on the community.

Research Support Office - RSO

The Research Support Office (GAI) succeeds the previous organic unit: FP-I3ID. The GAI is a support service unit for research, development and innovation (technical, administrative, informational and operational support for R&D activities), reporting directly to the Rectory and carrying out functions in conjunction with the competent bodies and services of FECFP, UFP, and ESS-FP.

Its mission includes, among others, supporting the preparation, submission, contracting, execution, monitoring, and closure of various types of applications and projects; promoting the dissemination of funding opportunities; supporting the centres, poles, and other R&D units of UFP and ESS-FP; promoting the institutional visibility of the research developed (see regulation).

In the development of its activities, the GAI is guided by rigorous ethical principles of conduct. It is equally committed to the practices of open science, citizen science, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
