On 18 April, the Casa da Cultura de Paranhos hosted the inaugural session of the “Paranhos à Conversa” (Paranhos in Conversation) conference series, promoted by the Culture Department of the Paranhos Parish Council, on the theme “An unstable world enters our lives…”.
The initiative was attended by Professor Jorge Pedro Sousa, clinical psychologist Joaquim Pinto, and the professor, moderator, and head of the Culture Department of the Paranhos Parish Council, Rui Alcântara Carreira. The session gathered approximately 20 participants, in addition to a live broadcast on social media by the Paranhos Parish Council.
The conference aimed to reflect on contemporary political, economic and social instability and its impacts on society. In his address, Professor Jorge Pedro Sousa discussed the defence of the necessity of preserving the centrality of journalism as a social institution mediating and verifying public information, and the corresponding need for media literacy in primary and secondary schools, in a world characterised by disinformation and manipulation, amplified by social networks, artificial intelligence and the diversity of information sources.
