International Cooperation: UFP at the I Iberian Congress of Criminology

Fernando Pessoa University had an institutional presence at the 1st Iberian Congress of Criminology (and 15th Spanish Congress), which took place between 10th and 12th June 2026, at the Faculty of Law of the University of A Coruña, in Spain.

Under the theme “Shared Horizons in Criminology,” the event brought together professionals, researchers, academics, and students from both countries with the strategic objective of building bridges and facilitating investigative cooperation between Portugal and Spain.

The UFP was one of 13 Portuguese organisations that collaborated in organising this scientific milestone – promoted by the Spanish Society of Criminological Research and the ECRIM Research Group of the University of A Coruña. The event was attended by the institution's lecturers and researchers: Ana Sani (member of the event's Scientific Committee), Ana M. Sacau Fontenla, Gloria Jolluskin and Lígia Afonso.

The congress concluded on 12 June with a meeting between representatives of Portuguese institutions to review the event and plan for future meetings in other locations.

The 1st Iberian Congress of Criminology was an excellent meeting for multidisciplinary professionals and was of enormous relevance to researchers in the fields of Criminology and Justice Psychology at UFP.
