Rui Torres, professor of the Fernando Pessoa University, shares with Manuel Portela the curation of FONOVOZ — Encontros de Poesia Sonora, whose 2026 edition takes place on October 9 and 10 at O’culto da Ajuda in Lisbon.
Under the theme «Exile | Asylum», This initiative by Miso Music Portugal brings together different artistic practices that intersect voice, word, body, sound and technology. The sonic proximity between the two words serves as a starting point for a reflection on displacement, borders, acceptance and refuge through contemporary sound poetry.
The invited artists — Diogo Marques, Zuzana Husárová, Hannah Silva and Eduard Escoffet — were challenged to develop performances based on the theme of the meeting, including creating an original piece for this edition. Diogo Marques was a research fellow at the Fernando Pessoa Foundation between 2018 and 2020.
The program also includes a video component, which brings works from the historical archive and contemporary creation into dialogue with each other.
Over the two days, FONOVOZ proposes a space of encounter, creation and listening, inviting artists and audiences to explore the sound poem as a space of exile and a place of refuge.
