Webinar on sleep, modern life and health
25 FEB | 5:00 PM | Online

25 FEBRUARY | 5:00 PM | ONLINE

INTRODUCTION

The alternation between sleep and wakefulness is the most evident manifestation of the 24-hour circadian rhythmicity that regulates our physiology. These rhythms, generated by molecular oscillators in the brain and tissues, are fundamental for aligning bodily functions with the natural cycle of day and night.

However, contemporary lifestyle changes—such as irregular working hours, prolonged use of digital devices, and artificial light exposure—contribute to the desynchronisation of the internal biological clock. This misalignment affects not only the quality of rest but also various physical and mental processes, potentially interfering with alertness, cognition, mood, metabolism, immunity, and interpersonal relationships.

In this webinar, we will cover the effects of irregular sleep-wake patterns, the emergence of circadian rhythm disturbances, and the consequences of insufficient sleep. We will also explore the role of the circadian system and sleep homeostasis, as well as their interaction with behavioural and environmental factors, offering practical suggestions for promoting health and quality of life.
