Inauguration of the UFP Rectorate for the 2026–2029 term

Fernando Pessoa University held the inauguration ceremony for the new Rector’s Team in its auditorium, at a session chaired by the Rector, Prof. Eugénio Campos Ferreira, and the President of the Fernando Pessoa Foundation, Prof. Salvato Trigo.

The ceremony, held on May 22nd, brought together lecturers, researchers and collaborators of the institution, marking the start of a new era for Fernando Pessoa University, characterised by a commitment to research, innovation and internationalisation, promoting greater integration and proximity to the academic community.

They took office:

• Prof. Dr Feliz Gouveia, as Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation;

• Prof. Ana Fonseca, PhD, as Vice-Rector for Education, Academic Organisation and Pedagogical Innovation;

• Prof. Paula Mota Santos, PhD, as Vice-Rector for Culture, Social Responsibility, Regional Relations and International Cooperation.

Professor Feliz Gouveia holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto and a PhD from the University of Technology of Compiègne in France. He has been with Fernando Pessoa University since 1996, working in the fields of computer science, innovation and technological development. Since 2019, he has served as Director of the Faculty of Science and Technology at UFP.

Professor Ana Fonseca, who holds a bachelor’s and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto, is an Associate Professor at UFP, where she has been teaching for over 30 years. She conducts research in the fields of sustainability and environmental management and is a full member of the RISE-Health research centre.

Professor Paula Mota Santos holds a degree in History, specialising in Archaeology, from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Porto, a Master’s degree from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, and a PhD in Anthropology from University College London. Her academic work focuses on the fields of heritage, tourism, social identities and international cooperation.

The new Rector’s Team is part of the new rectorate term led by Prof. Eugénio Campos Ferreira, Rector of UFP since March 2026.

He holds a bachelor’s and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Porto, and has conducted research at the Université Catholique de Louvain, undertaken postdoctoral research at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and spent a sabbatical at the University of California, San Diego.

He has been a Full Professor in the Department of Biological Engineering at the University of Minho since 2010, having begun teaching there in 1991. Between 2019 and 2025, he served as Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the University of Minho.

He has held various academic and scientific leadership roles, and has also chaired the National Council of the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering of the Portuguese Engineers’ Association. He is currently co-coordinator of the national chapter of CoARA – Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment.
He has served as Vice-Chancellor of Fernando Pessoa University since 16 March 2026.
