Fernando Pessoa University will host Professor Dr. Raquel Soares, Full Professor of the Department of Biomedicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, on October 23 at 17:00 for a conference dedicated to the challenges and opportunities of biomedical research in the 21st century.
The conference marks the inaugural lecture of the Doctorate in Biomedical and Health Sciences of UFP and UTAD
Under the theme “From Scientific Questions to Health Impact: Challenges and Opportunities in Biomedical Research in the 21st Century – Insights from Obesity and Cancer”, The conference proposes a reflection on how scientific issues transform into knowledge capable of producing impact on the health and quality of life of populations.
Drawing on two areas of particular relevance to public health — obesity and cancer — the session will allow for the exploration of some of the key challenges of contemporary biomedical research, ranging from understanding the mechanisms involved in the development of diseases to identifying new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
In a context of constant scientific and technological evolution, the conference provides an opportunity to reflect on the role of biomedical research in addressing the major health challenges, highlighting the importance of innovation, interdisciplinarity, and the connection between fundamental research and clinical practice.
The organization of this conference, aimed at Master's and Doctoral students, faculty members, researchers and other interested parties, reinforces the importance of advanced training and the sharing of scientific knowledge, promoting contact with topics and perspectives relevant to the development of biomedical research.
