UFP joins the UNESCO Global Week of Media and Information Literacy

Fernando Pessoa University (UFP) joins the global celebration of the 2026 Global Media and Information Literacy Week, an initiative promoted globally by UNESCO under the theme “We all have a role”. The event, which takes place between October 26 and 30, 2026, aims to strengthen critical thinking skills, evaluation, and responsible use of information, empowering citizens to make informed decisions in multiple domains of society.

The initiative mobilizes teachers, researchers and students from various organizational units of the UFP – the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS), the Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT), the Faculty of Health Sciences (FCS), the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (EMCB) and the Higher School of Health (ESS-UFP) – in direct collaboration with the school community of the 3rd cycle of basic and secondary education.

The opening session of the event will be attended by distinguished guests from the two promoting chairs, namely the President of the International Chair in Bioethics, Professor Rui Nunes, and the Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Communication, Media Literacy and Citizenship, Professor Tatiana Nunes.

Over the five days, UFP, ESS-FP and the digital institutional platforms will host a multidisciplinary program dedicated to financial, media and digital literacies for citizenship and health.

The program is structured around daily thematic axes that combine face-to-face dynamics on campus and in the enrolled schools, as well as in a digital environment, including live streaming, webinars, and exclusive content for social media.
