AI for students

Learning with the support of AI, while preserving authorship, understanding, and academic integrity.

AI

Five levels of usage

Consult the FUC and the statement for each assessment item for the level authorized by the teacher. The levels describe areas of use; they do not constitute an automatic authorization.

Level 00 – No AI. Any use is not permitted. Typically applies to face-to-face tests and elements intended to verify autonomous execution competencies.

Level 01 – AI as an assistant in planning. Authorised to study and explore the topic, clarify concepts and organize ideas. No generated content is included in the final product.

Level 02 – AI as an assistant in its form. Authorized for linguistic revision, spelling and syntactic correction, translation, and formatting. The substantive content and the argumentative structure are the student’s own work, with the exception of content generated to improve the readability and clarity of the text.

Level 03 – AI as an assistant in content creation, with declared critical transformation. Use of generated content is permitted, provided that it has been critically transformed and declared. The student retains ownership of the central ideas, arguments, and methodological decisions.

Level 04 – AI as an object or instrument of study. Integrated use within the pedagogical objective itself, including the comparison of results between systems, critical analysis of biases, professional uses, ethical implications, or assisted co-production. Subject to full declaration, including the instructions used.

Which remains your responsibility

At the authorized level and within its scope, use AI in a conscious and critical manner, preserving the understanding and authorship of your work.

You should not submit material that you do not fully understand. All work submitted for evaluation must be able to be explained, substantiated, and discussed by its author.

Conceptual, factual, or methodological errors generated by AI are the responsibility of the person submitting the work, without any mitigating circumstances. AI is not the author, so it is important that all content be reviewed.

All research sources and references suggested by AI must be confirmed, accessed, read, and validated for their suitability. The citation of nonexistent or unconsulted sources constitutes a lack of academic integrity, regardless of the source of the suggestion.

It must keep a record of the instructions used after submitting the assessment element, and, when requested, explain how the AI was used and indicate how the results were edited, rewritten, or critically transformed.

The central ideas, arguments, methodological decisions, and interpretations must come from the student. The automatic generation of complete essays, conclusions, or discussion sections without substantive critical intervention is not permissible. The author of a work must be human, and it is not possible to attribute authorship to an algorithm.

It must confront the content generated with other sources and with its own knowledge, bearing in mind that AI reproduces biases, excessive simplifications, and errors.

In case of doubt about the admissibility of a particular use, you should clarify it with the teacher before submitting it, and not afterwards.

Texts produced by AI may contain parts of material protected by copyright, so students should not copy the texts in their entirety, but rather use them as a starting point for further research and help in the preparation of their work. It is not acceptable to copy and paste text from the output of an AI system.

You should not share materials produced and/or shared by faculty members who have not authorized such sharing with AI systems. Unauthorized sharing with AI systems, unless the copyright or privacy policies of the AI systems allow it, may result in copyrighted text being used by third parties, namely for model training.

Using AI requires transparency.

Unreported use, or at a level above that authorized, may be equated to academic fraud.

In case of doubt

Clarify with the teacher, before handing over the work, whether the intended use is permissible. Confirm how the use should be declared and keep a record of the instructions.
